Laddie Boy Liked His Coffee

Laddie Boy
was an Airedale Terrier born on July 26, 1920, and who died on January 23, 1929.

Given to President Warren G. Harding on his inauguration, he became a minor celebrity during the Harding administration, famous for having his own chair at cabinet meetings, and for retrieving golf balls smacked onto the fairways by his master.

Laddie Boy was the first Presidential dog to be regularly covered by the national press. After President Harding's death in 1923, Florence Harding gave the dog to secret service agent Harry Barker, who took Laddie to Boston where it lived as a much-loved family pet.
