This picture was taken at a dog show at Aldridge's Horse Repository, St. Martin's Lane, London, in 1911,
The sign in the upper right advertises "Cofectant" which was a kennel cleaner and disinfectant in common use prior to the rise of distemper vaccines. The distemper vaccine, and every canine life saved by it, was made possible by fox hunters.
1911 is the same year the M-1911 pistol was first made, and also the year that the Weeks Act was passed -- the first big American corporate bailout, which gave us most of our National Forests east of the Mississippi.
1911 was also the year that the Doberman Pinscher and the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon were first shown at Westminster.
