Jocelyn Lucas Rabbit Hunting

This rabbit hunt occurred somewhere in Britain in the 1950s.  The pictures were taken for LIFE Magazine by William J. Sumits. The terriers are Sealyhams, and the man at the center is Jocelyn Lucas, the first and last man to have ever used Sealyhams for work.

  1. They were beautiful little dogs- but I perceive the incipient evil of their "purebredness" in some of the photos. A certain sameness... According to wikipedia they were bred for hunting... who knows. The wiki photo of a "well-groomed" Sealyham is a grotesque worthless creature- unlike the 50s dog which look pretty cool. Sad...
