The porcupine sent a signal, but without repetition the animal may be confused. For the message to be fully understood, we may need to do this two or three times a day for a week or two.
In the absence of good timing and repetition, signals can be misunderstood or forgotten.
And of course, even when learned, the message and training needs to be periodically reinforced.
Never stop training!
