GPS Tracking for Hawks

New Product Announcement from Marshall Radio TV on Vimeo.

Apparently, back in June, Marshall came our with a very small, affordable, real time GPS tracker that can be tail- or leg-mounted on a hawk or falcon and which transmits to a cellphone.

This is a big deal, as losing birds is the single greatest fear of every hawker. Though the old UHF and VHS transmitters work well, GPS-to -the -cell-phone is clearly the future.

It's hard to fully appreciate how important wildlife transmitters are to understanding wildlife migration and life cycle patterns.

The first conformation of long-distance bird migration occurred when a European stork returned from Africa with a spear in is neck,

Only a few decades ago, we had no idea how far south America's hawks traveled (as far south as Argentina).

Today, transmitters can track dragonflies over the Indian oceans, or the endless migrations of shearwaters, and there is even an "app" to track such "public figure" sharks as the Great White Mary Lee.
