Medicare Has a Code for Orca Bites

You cannot cannot make this stuff up.

If you go to the Medicare and Medicaid health coding lookup site, you will see 9 different codes for encounters with an Orca, 12 for injuries from a jellyfish, 3 different codes for being pecked by a turkey, 9 codes for being bitten by a Sea Lion, 10 codes for chicken attack. as well as many other codes for interactions with alligators, turtles, snake, cows, horses, and raccoons. Oddly absent:  any codes for being bitten by a fox. coyote, wolf, or cougar.

No, I am not making this up!  Check out the link yourself, and in the comments let me know what odd codes you find.

  2. Lizards. There's codes for lizard bites.

Fish is the winner, however: between the fish themselves, and the fishing boats, over 50 codes.
