Real Nature or Staged?

This picture is out of Finland
, and I have a hard time believing its not staged, as Amanita muscaria is a powerful hallucinogen and an occasional poison. A fox that ate half a mushroom would be riding a pink unicorn. And yet, fox eat strange stuff, and even poisons, all the time. What do you think?

  1. Maybe the fox liked riding a pink unicorn. Or maybe it affects them differently than it affects us.

  2. There are a bunch of mushrooms that look a lot like Amanita Muscara, including the Amanita caesarea. Some of them are quite safe to eat. Perhaps the fox knows this.

  3. Self medication, recreational or experimental ?

The chunks of mushroom to the left show the fox may not actually be consuming it. Maybe there is a scent on it.

I've heard of wolves eating moss to cure infection

    I reckon animals self medicate.

Also heard of reindeer eating these mushrooms.

Photo strongly suggests flyagaric, Amanita muscaria.

Unmistakable compared to the edible variety.

Funny picture, the Magpie is waiting his turn too
