Armadillos are natural carriers for leprosy, and in south Florida 10 people have caught the disease from contact with armadillos which are common in that state, Louisiana and Texas.
Leprosy is a treatable and curable disease now, and armadillo-to-human transmission is very rare, but folks with working terriers are not normal people with an average chance of getting a zoonotic disease, are we?
Bottom line: Be careful out there.
