The Center for Disease Control says wild animals account for over 90% of all reported rabies cases in the U.S.,with raccoons being the major carrier (about 35% of all animal cases in 2010), followed by skunks (about 25%), bats (about 25%), foxes (7%), and other wild animals, including rodents, rabbits and hares (1.8%).
