Herbert Spencer, the fellow who coined the term "survival of the fittest" and "Social Darwinism" died on this day in 1903.
Born in April 27, 1820, Spencer developed his ideas about evolution independently of Charles Darwin, but coined the phrase “survival of the fittest” in 1864 after reading the Origin of Species, published in 1859.
