We See All the Dogs Again in Heaven

Back during the Victorian era, families often asked photographers to do post-mortem photos of their just-deceased family members. One way to make the dead look living was to pose them with other family members or their favorite things . This dead fellow was photographed with his dogs.

The converse was also done -- living people photographed with their just-deceased dogs posed to look as if they are still alive.
