The man never existed except in the minds of an ad man, and the book was never written. It was all part of a clever Yellow Pages campaign more than 30 years ago, but the campaign was so memorable that a REAL book of (fake) fly fishing memories was published eight year later, and it became a Christmas best seller. And the author? None other than JR Hartley, of course.
