Mast Is Mother Nature's Icebox


This is mast -- a thick layer of acorns on the forest floor that makes life possible in the winter for mice, deer, bear, turkey and squirrel. 

It's hard to know yet if this is a great year or not based on one location, but things were clearly OK at this particular spot.
