Eisenhower's Jack Russell Terrier

That's the savior of the Free World in the middle, standing tall at the back. This picture was taken around 1907 and is part of our Presidential Dogs page over at the main web site.

While President, Ike had two Scottish terriers and a Weimeraner.

Fellow Republican Teddy Roosevelt favored a relative of the Jack Russel known today as the rat terrier. This little dogs played a major role in ridding the building site of the West Wing of rats. Known as Feist dogs up to that time, Teddy is the fella who dubbed them rat terrier. They differ from their cousins as being easier to manage and are really almost like children eager to please and perpetually curious about everything that moves.
