Moving 50-Tons with a Credit Card

From Yahoo News, via way of Kelly H., comes this story from Australia:

Jessie, a 4-year-old Jack Russell terrier trapped for seven days under nearly 50 tons of rock has been freed. Her owner, Steve Porter, spent more than $2,000 to rescue the pup.

Jessie and Porter were rabbit hunting near their home in Australia when Jessie darted after a feral cat and became trapped 11 feet underground, beneath two boulders. Initially, Porter, along with his son and two neighbors, tried to pry Jessie free. When that effort was unsuccessful, they called the State Emergency Service--Australia's EMS--to lend a hand.

  1. Seems like a relative bargain to me. I cannot imagine not doing the same, which is not to take anything away from the man who saved his dog in this case.

  2. I agree Seahorse. That lick made it all worthwhile. Of course a leash would have solved the problem before hand.

  3. Money no object, but I would not that most dogs can get out of where they get it. A lot of money is spent in these cases because the owner assumes the dogs is stuck. If it's barking, it's not stuck -- it's on game!

  4. I have read lots of stories of fat JRTs coming home skinny after being lost down a hole on a walk. And if a large cat got out, a normal JRT should get out. But happy ending was had by all.
