Box Turtle Meets Tiller... and Loses


The dogs and I had a nice day in the field today. Saw something between the rows of rising corn and flipped it over to find this box turtle shell that had been capped by the tiller. If you look, you can see one of the larger bones (a pelvis?) in the upper left.

Box turtles are in decline all over the U.S., mostly due to roads. For more on that, read this earlier post on the topic.
