Deer in the Woods, Deer in the Road

The Perennial Plate Episode 40: Road Kill (Deer in the woods, Deer in the road) from Daniel Klein on Vimeo.

This is Minnestota, so it's not just hunters that control the deer population: there's are also about 3,000 wolves in the state.

Another thing to remember if you are deer hunting: It's a little harder if you are doing it with a camera crew in tow.

That said, one thing I like about this clip is that it's a reminder that a lot of deer are hit on the roads every year (see here for state-specific data), and if the deer are not too badly smashed, and the weather is right, and a crew arrives in time, a lot of that meat can be put to good use.

  1. There is no reason one can't start prepping the carcass, especially if the crew is delayed. Geez, they they sell them on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=deer+bag&tag=googhydr-20&index=sporting&hvadid=12499630307&ref=pd_sl_3h2aq1yr6e_b.
