My father age 82, is getting his second brain operation in 18 months, this time to install a brain shunt to reduce spinal fluid building up in his cranium. His first operation, for the same issue, was very succesful for more than a year, but now more fluid needs to come off, and so this time it's a shunt rather than a ventricular hole.
The good news is that the diagnosis and operation, to take place early this morning (I am there now), has been done by a team at Johns Hopkins (that's them, above) and I do not think Dad could be in better hands as they did the previous work which achieved miraculous results.
My father is in great shape otherwise, and if all goes well he should be home by Saturday.
UPDATE: The surgery went off without a hitch, and my father was looking and sounding great in recovery. He has a few more days at Johns Hopkins, but I think we are going to have another terrific medical success thanks to a skilled and dedicated medical team. Truly thrilled!
