Bangalore Jack Russell, 1910

Bangalore, India, 1910

A Bangalore Jack Russell is a bit like a Bangalore Torpedo, but it has four legs and will, very occcassionally, return a ball.

  2. Love the old British shikar portraits. A fine set of horns on the blackbuck skull, but not sure of the plain colored hide -- maybe goral.

You'd look pretty good in that outfit, too, Patrick.

  3. So, you made me look up the antelope that could have contributed his horns to this photo, and I found it to be The Indian Blackbuck Antelope. This came from a web site of "vanishing species".

  4. Wouldn't I look all spiffy dressed up as Frank Buck? Ah my dream job.

We actually have quite a fair number of Blackbuck running around in Texas. They were naturalized in the 1920s or 30s. While I think it is illegal to hunt Blackbuck in India now, you can hunt them in Texas where the population is fairly robust and where they also have decent populations of Nilgai, as well as Axis deer, Fallow deer and Sika deer and untold numbers of whitetail and mule deer. We also have Gemsbok hunting in New Mexico, believe it or not!

It seem the only thing still native in Texas are the Baptists ;)

  5. Nope, us Catholics beat the Baptists here by about 200 years but neither of us are natives. LOL! Spanish Catholics brought the Mustangs and the Longhorns for God, Gold and Glory.

  6. The real question is whether you can rock that pencil-thin mustache, Patrick.

  7. I had a an Ahab beard once (red), but I think if I grew a pencil thin, the next time I went to Baltimore I would get mocked my John Waters and who needs *that*? Bad enough that he said I was the inspiration for Devine.

  8. Ah, Devine! How I miss her/him/them. I wonder whatever happened to friend Cuddles?

You're right, John Waters does sort of have a lock on the PTM look. Guess your fall-back is going to have the be the Boy Scout/Safari couture, to include those boss leggings. You don't see those much anymore!

  9. I'm assuming the Jack Russel took the tiger whose skin he's sitting on.
