That really was a great bit. The inverse could also be said for men whose wives bring home pomeranians. In my case, my husband brought one home and I was like "no, honey, I said I wanted a third DOG, not a third SLIPPER."
And yes, within a week the inevitable happened, and she went from slipper to Queen of the Pillow. My own mother was making her coats with her initials embroidered on them - and my mother detests dogs (animals in general, really).
It's a great metaphor for first impressions and prejudices, isn't it?
