According to the North American Bear Center in Ely, Minnesota, Lily a three-year old black bear, gave birth Friday morning to a single cub.
Cubs average only three-quarters of a pound and are nine inches long when born. The cub will weigh about nine pounds when it leaves the den in the spring, which means it's going to spend a lot of time in the weeks ahead nursing.
There is a live camera in the den, and right now (early Monday morning) you can see the back of Lily, some snow coming into the den, and hear the club squall, chortle, and suckle. Check it out!
