Doggy Man Cave
I've been building a rock "man cave" for the dogs in the back yard. It is not quite completed, but this is what it looks like in the snow. It has stone and concrete walls and top, an elevated and sloped concrete floor with insulated panels on top of that, a plastic mat on top of that, and a deep pile of fresh straw inside. It will be covered by ivy.
Guess what? The dogs ignore it! They much prefer their large insulated communal dog house in the garage, which is part of our stone house. Still, in the summer, I think the dogs will enjoy loafing on top. Besides, can anyone really have too many houses? Maybe this will be their "summer place."

Don't give up hope. I spent $250 on a Dog Den from K-9 Condo for one of our terriers. I was just about to pull it out of his kennel when lo and behold I saw him come out of it one day. It took him a year to finally use it, now he uses it all the time.
ReplyDeleteDogs, they get to it when they feel like it regardless of how much you spent.
Nice doggy digs btw ... toss some huge knuckle bones in there and see what happens.
Put a groundhog in there and I bet they'll like it a lot more.
ReplyDeleteI love the dog house! Can you take some pictures of it now, in the Spring?
ReplyDeleteSure -- it's pretty rough work from old stone at the back of the yard, but it seems to work and it will improve with ivy ;)
