Big Puffball Mushroom

This is a Puffball Mushroom, well past prime, and about the size of a human skull. This one was found in the hedge yesterday -- a classic Calvatia gigantea. If found young, they are excellent eating, provided the middle is still white all the way through.

After the cold snap and all the rain we have had for the last four days, mushrooms should be sprouting all over.

  1. It really does look like the top of a skull.
