This is silly beyond belief. At first i thought it was a new type of genetically altered sheep. As it is a rabbit best served on a casserole dish with some sliced tomato and onions done under a medium grill. Just like Mom used to make when I was a kid.

It's an English Angora rabbit. They were originallly bred for fur, but this particular breed of hair rabbit is now bred for fur and fancy points. (I used to be in Flemish and German gray rabbits, which are meat rabbits).
ReplyDeleteIt just proves that dogs aren't the only totally effed up domestic animal out there.
However, have you seen some of the pigeon breeds that have been developed for shows? They are almost as deformed as show dogs are. Charles Darwin was amazed at their variety, and they helped him come up with the theory of natural selection.
We have lots of rabbits in our yard but honestly, if I ever saw one like this coming at me, I'd run. It looks like I could outrun the thing at least.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing some kind of lop earred angora rabbit ... however it does look pretty similar to what a Pekingese looks like these days ... if they were white. Rabbit probably breathes better though.

ReplyDeleteSome of the fiber folks at our Farmer's Market have rabbits like that for the hand-spinning market. I bought a nice hat for my sister-in-law to wear in the freezer -- she's a warehouse manager and it keeps her head warm when she needs it.
ReplyDeleteThe hand-spinners seem to keep them in the house and then harvest the fur as needed, so the bunnies don't look that fluffy all the time. Personally, I'm for rabbits as dinner, but for those that appreciate them, the bunnies seem to have a pretty good life. . .
