A Very Bad Sign for the AKC

You probably haven't played Monopoly in a while, and if you have, you probably used the old version of game tucked into the top shelf of your closet.

That said, if you've acquired a new set in recent years, you may have noticed that the Scottish Terrier has disappeared from the "Monopoly Here and Now" version of the game and been replaced with a hybrid Labradoodle -- a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Standard Poodle.

So what happened to the Scottish terrier?

Actually, quite a lot of bad things, including jaw-dropping levels of cancer, and rising levels of inbreeding.

The clear message of the "Here and Now" version of Monopoly is that a modern science-based person will stay clear of dogs bred by 19th Century theorists, and will instead focus more on true canine health and utility.

  1. I can appreciate the concerns about inbreeding and its consequences in closed-breed matings...and maybe it's just something to do with the name...but I do believe I'm more opposed to Labradoodles than I am to human cloning.

  2. I hear you and agree with you!

Please God, let's rename this dog.

Of course it could have been called a Lab-Poo which would have been even worse.
