Meanwhile, in Terrebonne Parish Louisiana ....

HOUMA, La. Terrebonne Parish nutria took the hardest hit this season from a four-dollar-a-tail bounty offered by the state.

Terrebonne led the state in collecting nutria tails during the Louisiana Coastwide Nutria Control Program's third season, which stretches from November through March.

More than 80-thousand of the marsh-eating rodents were killed in Terrebonne this year -- and about 297,000 to 500,000 stateawide.

The state total is down considerably from the 2004 total of 332,000 to 600,000.

The state Department of Wildlife nad Fisheries says that's largely because floods from Hurricane Ivan wiped out many nutria in Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parishes. It says the Plaquemines Parish harvest was down by nearly 48-thousand, and the figure was down by nine-thousand in St. Bernard Parish.
