I put out suet, sunflower, nuts, nijer seed, and there is a little fruit in the nut mix. Sparrows love millet and starch, and there isn't any, all oily seeds, so they find other feeders. Mix unsalted nuts with sunflower in a cling feeder, walnut pieces, pecan pieces, chopped unsalted cashews, they bring the fledglings. Had a 'wet behind the ears' fledgling White Breasted Nuthatch today, pretty adorable. The eggs hatched only a few days ago, so the little squirts are too small to be seen yet above the nest line. I always seem to get finches or sparrows on the pillar tops, although one year it was a robin.

We quit feeding the birds except for the upside-down goldfinch feeder and the hummer feeder now. All we get are the sparrows and finches, and they crowd out all the other birds, even on the suet feeder.

Interesting to learn a little more about them, though. Junk birds, is all they are in our yard though.Viateciohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08523551407472141202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7684843.post-43738680103111176142010-04-01T15:08:42.528-04:002010-04-01T15:08:42.528-04:00I just saw a cute little bird outside my window it...I just saw a cute little bird outside my window it looked just like the male house finch. I'm not a bird watcher (or am I?) but studied it while it sat on my balcony and then looked it up online here in western Colorado. It was a cute little bird!
I saw a bluebird or the bluest bird I ever saw once in my life down in Pueblo, Colorado.Rebeckahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05460646066472547456noreply@blogger.com
