I used to hunt rabbits there when I was a kid".Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03390561483228513247noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7684843.post-71044847709236527642010-11-29T19:39:06.473-05:002010-11-29T19:39:06.473-05:00When I wrote about the Iroquois Hunt in Lexington,...When I wrote about the Iroquois Hunt in Lexington, Kentucky, more than a few people were appalled. How could an animal-lover support a hunting hound pack?

Geez, you only have to drop your talking-point assumptions and open your eyes. Without institutions like the Iroquois Hunt the open-space habitat around the city would become ... more city. No more habitat.

The occasional pestering (and very, very rare death) of a coyote by hounds followed by riders on horseback is better for the environment and the habitat for native animals than developments named after horse farms with houses full of people who "wuv animals" ever would be.Ginahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06269415397411374828noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7684843.post-915332712380279222010-11-29T16:56:09.909-05:002010-11-29T16:56:09.909-05:00I agree with Sean or with the thrust of his commen...I agree with Sean or with the thrust of his comment. Higher density housing is one of the solutions. This is not the dream for most people that want to purchase a home but I think people are coming over to the idea.
Maybe this downturn, that could very likely get worse, the direction of development might be condos, townhouses, more efficient use of land.
I'm a Carpenter and I spent half of my career in the tracts then shifted over to housing and commercial for rich folks.
I do not like tract development, and like I said, lets hope that this economic restructuring, particularly in real estate, pushes that kind of development into a permanent rarity.nofironhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17905225864120665821noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7684843.post-84318435296102244242010-11-29T12:45:34.817-05:002010-11-29T12:45:34.817-05:00I, for one, lament the box turtle. Some of my earliest memories are of my father hastily pulling over his lifted, mud-tire clad pickup over to run back and carry a box turtle or Red Ratsnake across SR 70 in South Florida.

Somehow we need to convince folks that they are preserving the American Dream by living in an apartment building downtown and spending the weekends hiking and hunting in the woods. When you move there, it is not the woods anymore.Seanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13877910729727346340noreply@blogger.com
