I'm With Her

In the Lady's left arm is a book, and that book represents the rule of law.

What that means for U.S. Immigration policy, is that while the Lady in the Harbor can never salute illegal immigration, it also can never salute the kind of banana republic unilateral action we now see being undertaken by Donald Trump.

What can you do?

If you go to church, and your minister does not address the issue of turning away a refugee in the Middle East who needs a place to stay, please STAND UP AND ASK HIM or HER TO DO SO. Ask what the Gospels suggest. Ask that the church address this now, and every week, until Easter.`

Spread the Gospel: Luke 10:25-37 and Luke 3:11 and Matthew 25:35-40 and James 2:14-17.

Spread the facts:

  • There have been no fatal terror attacks in the U.S. by immigrants from the 7 banned Muslim countries.
  • There is no intelligence that refugee admissions are a security threat.
  • Refugee entrants to the U.S. undergo two YEARS of screening for admission, while Trump cabinet nominees were screened for only minutes, and still have not complied with basic paperwork requests, such as their tax returns.
  • The 9-11 terrorists all came from Saudi Arabia, a country left off the list because Trump has properties there. Also left off the list were all the other countries where Trump has property, including Egypt, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
  • This ban is an attempt at a ban on a specific religion. If we allow this, we open the gates to Hell, as registries and worse are not far behind.

You might add Metthew 19:24 to the list, especially with reference to the uncharitable POTIS and his uncharitable cabinet

The countries were chosen under the Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015, passed under the previous administration.

Spot on. It was good to see this morning that Starbucks is doing the right thing and providing leadership amid our government's chaos:

The folks at the Townhall web site are screamjng that “Obama Selected The List Of Muslim Countries in Trump’s Executive Order."

No. Not quite.

For starters, yes there WAS legislation, but NO, it was not put forth by President Obama, nor was it fully vetted in the Senate.

Instead, this was legislation put up by Republican House member Candice Miller of Michigan. It passed the House, but was never given hearings in the Senate. Instead, it was tacked onto an omnibus budget reconciliation bill; a train that pulls a lot of things that are not big enough to drive themselves, in the hope that objectionsw would be lost in the push for a budget.

The Act actually does little more than say TOURISTS from the seven countries are NOT to be included in the visa waiver program (i.e no visa needed at all) that covers 38 other countries. It also says that the Dept. of Homeland Security Department can suspend a country’s participation if the country isn’t sharing foreign travel and terrorism information with the U.S.

The Act cited actually does not cover refugee admissions at all; it covers some 19 million tourists and others coming in for less than 90 days.

Refugee admissions are screened separately, and are so thoroughly screened that NO Muslim extremists from ANY of the 7 named countries has carried out a fatal attack in the U.S. more than two decades. We can't say that for homegrown terrorists can we?

In addition to banning refugee admission from these 7 countries for the next 4 month, Trump's order gives affirmative special dispensation, based on religion, to Christians, which is a clear violation of the separation of Church and State, and lends more legs (as if any were needed) that the intent here is to push for a "Muslim ban" which is EXACTLY what Trump said he would do while campaigning.

The Trump Executive Order also cuts refugee admissions by more than half (from 110,000 to 50,000), and this is being done without discussion, debate, or consultation with Congress.

So, NO, there is nothing here to the idea that this is "the same as Obama did."

Excellent post. Please, to all those who can afford it, consider a donation to the ACLU. They went into action quickly this weekend to petition judges and reunite families that have been torn apart by this. We are talking about children stranded in airports. There are Iranian families tragically separated for absolutely no good reason. This is harming translators in key Arabic nations, people who have assisted the US on the real front lines fighting terrorism, and this is how they're being repaid.

This is being done in our name and we have to do something to stop it. Write to your reps, donate, march, do something kind for a refugee center in your area. Please...it does make a difference!
