GMO or IUD?

Thanks to vaccines, the human race lives past 30, and thanks to GMO foods we can feed all the people that result without hammering the land.

Don't want GMO?  Then embrace long-term effective family planning, starting with yourself. Nothing lasts longer or is more effective than voluntary surgical sterilization.

No one collects their own seed anymore, and almost no one had done so for a very, very long time. There’s a very good reason for that, and it has nothing to do with Monsanto.

The short story is that most crop today are hybrids, same as your roses, your chickens, and your cattle.

Hybrids, when crossed with other hybrids, do not breed true. We see this with dogs, where an F1 Labradoodle, crossed with another F1 Labradoodle can result in anything from a Poodle to a Labrador to anything and everything in between.

Look at corn. Hybrid seed corn has been around for more than 100 years, and Henry Wallace of Pioneer Hybrid Seed corn fame learned his craft from none other than George Washington Carver. Hybrid corn, like most hybrid everything else, produced better and did it with less fall-over loss. And guess what? Farmers want that seed!

Now, any farmer is free to create their own hybrid seed corn if they want. No secret knowledge here – just a million hours of pollen crossing (that’s what those folks are doing in moon suits – moving pollen) that is simply stupid for a regular farmer to do. Even if they could get a great cross, they would have to harvest, sort, and store the seed. It’s one thing if you are doing that for a pumpkin, but it’s an entirely differenet matter if you are looking to plant 2,000 acres. Easier to buy it from people and companies machined and set up for that sort of thing. That was true in 1925, and it’s just as true today.

Monsanto is not trying to “control” anyone – it’s trying to make a profit. You make a profit by creating a product people want and marketing it. That’s all than Monsanto does.

“GMO” is probably not needed to feed the world, but if we got rid of GMO we WOULD have to get rid of a lot of the birds and other wildlife. The scores of millions or fragile land now protected under the Conservation Reserve Program would be plowed up (think Duts Bowl) and the forest that have re-grown in the Northeast, the South, and the Midwest would have never recovered and would still be under the plow. More importantly, hundreds of millions of tons of pesticides would be sprayed over corn, cotton and soy crops to keep insect infestations down. Why do you think we no longer have the “Silent Spring” that Rachel Carson warned us about? It’s because GMO allows us to “fix” a natural soil bacteria (Bt) into corn and other plants. That’s a win-win for everyone, from scarlet tanagers to falcons, from deer to rabbits, and from your mother to yourself.
