Cats shit, piss, cry, claw the furniture, and knock expensive knick-knacks of shelves. They also need vet care, entertainment and interaction.

If that's too much, maybe what you need is a pet rock.

Nice graphic.
I see you've tagged it, is it sharable?

But cats need care too. They shit and piss. They may not bark, but they can talk pretty loud. They need vet care and the attention of an owner. And they live longer than dogs.

Cats shit and piss, but in a box if inside. Finicky that way. They do not bark, are fine without training or excercise. Outdoor cats (cats allowed in the yard and neighborhood) rarely live past age 8.

Adopt a cat or kitten .... purfect for those with unstable lives and too little money who simply want a little fur to greet them when they come home to their apartment or rental home. That describes most people looking for a dog.

Along those lines, may I suggest the humble rabbit? It is a cheaper keeper than any cat. It accepts litter-training and is happy to stay in a cage, regarding excursions out and around as a treat rather than an expectation.

It will never annoy the neighbours with its sound nor visitors with its smell (unless you do not clean and change its bedding regularly, in which case you shouldn't have a pet at all). It requires no training, although it is happy to learn simple tricks. It will enjoy your company, yet never wake you at 6am on a Sunday and demand to be fed.

With luck (and not over-feeding it), it lasts 6 - 10 years and no one expects you to be heroic in prolonging its life past the point of comfort.
