Our Lady of Perpetual Hate and Greed

Remember when this kind of stuff was CHRISTIAN?

No?

Me either.

And that's the problem.

You know, I've always thought about starting my own non-denominatial church, and now you've given me a fantastic idea... or maybe that's the way we all should be all the time?

If you think about it, that was probably an original Jesus sort of idea, before all the stinking hate, bigotry, misogyny, racism, and hellfire and damnation was stirred into the mix by small minded people who quickly realized they could use FEAR to get into people's pockets or pants.

You can't judge Christianity as a whole by the people who are only practicing the parts they like, anymore than you can judge an author by the kind of readers they attract (or a blogger, for that matter). There are plenty of Christians out there who are doing their best to get it right. It's just that the words "A hundred people attended church this morning, went home, had dinner, played with their kids, read their Bibles, and quietly went about being kind and decent to everyone they met, regardless of whether they agreed with them" just doesn't quite grab headlines as well as "The CEO of chik-fil-a opened his mouth and said something stupid."

I grew up in the 60s in Salt Lake City. Non-Mormon. It was a very miserable time.
