I so love this song. Very poignant when you know it was written for/about his brother.

At some level this song is about alcoholism.

It was started, and initially written about/for Keth Whitley, who died of alcohol intoxication in 1989.

Vince finished this song in 1994 after his brother, Bob, died of a brain hemorhage following a 100-mph drunk driving accident/binge that left him brain damaged and in a coma for four months.

This song got the Grammy for best country music song in 1996.
